VCAL

What is VCAL

VCAL is an option for the last two years of secondary school which is different to the VCE. The emphasis is on ‘hands on’ or ‘applied learning’ and the program aims to prepare students for TAFE, an apprenticeship / traineeship or employment.

Students are at school three days a week; at TAFE or undertaking industry training one day a week; on work placement with an employer in the area of interest one day a week.

What is involved in VCAL?

All VCAL students undertake four subjects on their school allocated days. They are: Numeracy, Literacy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills.

Class time is very important and students need to ensure attendance is maintained at a high level. Organisation, motivation and a consistent approach to study are the key ingredients for a successful VCAL experience. In addition, students are encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the College through the Camps and Excursions programs, Careers Expos, University visits, College Productions, Music, Sport and community volunteering opportunities to name a few.
